Happy New Year, everyone! With the dawn of 2017 upon us, we chose to listen to Pax by Sara Pennypacker. A coming of age novel with voices that alternate between Peter, a clumsy boy with confidence issues, and Pax, a spritely fox who’s goal in life is to protect “his boy.” Human and animal growth are equally explored through loss, friendship, and the occasional fox yip. Get your tissues ready, ya’ll, this one’s heartbreakingly gorgeous.

We hope that everyone is having a fantastic holiday season! This week’s episode, we wanted to listen to a book that dealt with the trials and tribulations of family during the holiday season. For us, Christmas means gathering together with family for dinner, gift opening, and good conversations--a similarity we found between us and the Quinn family in Winter Street. However, we have to admit, though, the Quinn family has quite a bit more drama to their holiday than we do. So we hope you break out the eggnog, put on some slippers, and settle next to a warm fireplace to listen to us talk about a family we fell in love with in this wintery modern classic!

For this bonus episode, we reviewed a fun twist on the North Pole story. Merry is the daughter of Santa Claus, and she is not the biggest fan of Christmas, much to the disdain of her parents. But soon after being tricked to come back home for the holidays, she meets a man that sends chills down her spine (get it?). The clichés are obvious, and the title of the book gives away most of the story, but it’s still an interesting glimpse into the family dynamics of good ol’ St. Nick.

This short story of The Christmas Shoes was written as a way to elaborate on the song that makes us all think about what is important in life. It’s a story that connects you with the patrons in the song and gives you more insight into the lives of the people that fatefully cross paths in a department store. Bake some cookies, heat up some hot cocoa, and grab your tissues because this audiobook will make you want to ugly cry into your stocking.

In this week’s episode, we tackle Mary Kubica’s “thriller,” The Good Girl. The story revolves around a kidnapping that goes awry. We were excited to start this audiobook because of all the rave reviews. As we listened to this “roller coaster” of a ride (depending on what rides you consider twisty enough for you), we found ourselves perplexed as to why this story had so many people talking! Through the character’s different perspectives, we uncover a mystery that may been better off hidden. So, if you are looking for an audiobook that will kidnap you for a couple hours, see if our review will help you decide to shelf it or shove it.

Travel through time with us as we discuss the science fiction classic The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. An interesting journey that paved the way for future generations to make books, movies, and even TV shows about time traveling. There’s some political stuff involved in this book that went way over our heads, so we mainly just talk about the imaginative world that H.G was able to create way back when he was writing this book in 1895!

In this week’s episode we are chatting about The Woman in Cabin 10, a novel set on the open sea where mystery is afoot. We each had a different experience with this novel, but we both agree that Imogen Church is one of our new favorite narrators! Try not to go overboard with this thriller.
